Are you able to offer any support via email for this web part? I have it installed but I get a "Unknown Error" when I try to upload a picture.

Thanks much!

In there I can remove the unwanted first part of the URL and then it works nicely via both access methods so that's a usable workaround.

Thanks
Ross

New Post: More flexible library URL would be useful

Thanks for this Paul. It will be useful.

Of course there's always something :)

It would be nice of the library URL could begin with a slash and not require the full protocol, host name etc. The reason for this is that our SharePoint site is accessible in two ways.

Within the LAN it's something like http://server:1234/OurSite but from the outside word it's https://example.com/5678/OurSite. SSL seems like an unnecessary performance hit within the LAN and the host name prevents it from going out the router and back. This web part means that we really need to use the same URL at all times. That problem would be solved if the library URL could be set to something simple like /OurSite/ImageUpload. I tried putting that in web.config but I get "Invalid URI: The format of the URI could not be determined" when trying to add an image. I'm not quite sure from what part of the code that text comes from. It's the message from a UriFormatException.

Anyway ... I can probably do something with the DNS to allow local users to use the full URL without really leaving the LAN and accept the use of SSL which is a requirement for accessing from the internet.

Cheers
Ross

New Post: stsadm -o setimageuploadlocation does not work.

FYI, I had a similar problem. It worked fine the first time but then I realized that I had given it the wrong URL.

Running the setimageuploadlocation command again did not update web.config even though it always reported success with no errors. I tried it several times. Timer jobs etc are all running. Just in case, I tried manually deleting the existing entry and also deleting the <appSettings></appSettings> which was empty by then. Nothing helped so I updated the file manually and all is well now.

When running the STSADM command, you should receive either a message that "operation completed sucessfully" or some type of error. Since you don't see any entries in web.config, there must have been some kind of error. Re-run the stsadm command and post a copy of messages displayed on the screen.

I'm guessing that it is in a site with publishing turned on and/or requires check-out. The code does not handle either scenario, so you need to update the code to perform the check-out & check-in or change to a picture library in a different site.
If you look at the web.config file for the sp02:13625 web application, has it been updated with the entry in the <appSettings> section?

If not, perhaps the WebConfig Refresh job is not running. What is the status of the Timer Jobs in Central Administration? Is the Windows SharePoint Services Timer service running?

I have a problem with setting up my webpart. When i execute the following line:

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN\stsadm.exe" -o setimageuploadlocation -webapp http://sp02:13625/wiki -library http://sp02:13625/wiki/Plaatjes

There is no error, but i keep on getting te message:

The URL of this library must be configured in the web.config file. Run the
STSADM -o SetImageUploadLocation command to set the location.

Can somebody help me?
There are several solutions, but when it is realized as a separate web part, it looses much of usability. The main is that there is no easy way to edit a default ‘add new’ page of Wiki. To overcome this difficulty, I advice to modify the ‘Insert Image’ popup dialog code.
The design prototypes are:

Image Upload Web Part, introduced by Paul Schaeflein

Image uploading scheme with iFrame, developed by me for ZK Interactive’s site engine.

The SharePoint keeps the required files by default in the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS
The default RTE dialog, which is used to collect the required information to insert an image by the ULR is named RteDialog.aspx. There also is an availability to add more pages in this folder and there is no need to register them in any other way.
So I used an iFrame in the main dialog and a helper upload page to simplify both pages code.
Here it looks like:

Download (complete instructions are included).
